About Us: The Duck in the Truck was originally a 7-foot duck costume that David Opasik wore when he delivered messages of love in San Francisco in 1978. The messages were written in the form of poems by Susan Opasik culled from information submitted by the person calling.
The truck was an old post office delivery truck painted red and outfitted with a helium tank for balloons. David would pull up to a home or business, get in the back, blow up some balloons and dress up as QUACKADOODLE, the 7-Foot Duck. Now it's puppetry. In 1997 David and Susan Opasik formed a non profit corporation in the state of Florida and selected a Board of Directors with the intention of seeking grants for performing in schools and preschools. Programs such as Compassion Reaction, H.A.R.M.O.N.Y., and Professor O's Traveling Book Show have helped children learn about the importance of school, reading, respect for all living creatures and life's lessons. Today, as a 501(c)(3) corporation, Duck in the Truck Puppets seeks grants and donations to keep these and other programs alive. Most of their performances are centered in central and southern Florida.
Puppeteer and seamstress Susan Opasik fabricated all the stages and puppets. David Opasik is the "idea" man and works the audience out front as Professor O, inspired by Kukla, Fran and Ollie of 50's television. The two are always developing new material and presentations with the concept of vaudeville in mind. New programs using PowerPoint projections are in the works to further delight young minds. Whether celebrating birthdays or having fun at a festival, Duck in the Truck Puppets will be there to make it memorable.
